Articles by Dartes Swimmers Past and Present

Every now and again, someone pops up out of the deep end and writes an article for the website. Sometimes these are former Dartes swimmers with happy memories to share. Often they're current members with something special or interesting to shout about. Either way, if it's interesting and in some way connected to Dartes or Doncaster Swimming, we'll probably publish it.
Here's one of those articles.

So Long, and thanks for all the Good Times

As many of you will already have heard, last week we bid an emotional farewill to a girl who has been at the spearhead of the Dartes medal surge this year. On Friday night Sophie Taylor (Arm), and her mum Julie, announced through tears and hugs and more tears that they were leaving Dartes.

It's been an emotional few years and they've each written a few words to explain the situation.

On behalf of everyone at Dartes, good luck to you both in the future. We look forward to bumping into you both at meets for many years to come.

From Sophie

As some of you may have heard I am leaving Dartes.

So Long Sophie I just thought I would like to say a few words to my friends at Dartes and to explain why I have left! Some of you may be aware that my mother (Julie) has got engaged to Gary (the PAW Swimwear man) and we have now moved up to Leeds to live with him. I am also starting school in Leeds. We have tried to work out if it was possible to travel to Doncaster (to continue my training there) but it is just impossible to get to sessions on time, due to traffic and as I don't finish school until 3.55pm.

Unfortunatly, we have decided the only option was to leave Dartes and move to a club closer to our new home so I can continue my swimming at the level I have reached with Dartes.

My sister and I have had many very enjoyable times over the last three or four years at Dartes and have made some great friends.

I would like to thank all the coaches, especially Andy, and the many many other people at the club who have helped my swimming career so far and I will miss you all but I know we will keep in touch and see you at galas!

From Julie

I would just like to add my grateful thanks to so many people at Dartes for all their help and support over the last few years to both myself and my daughters, especially Andy and Pete (Litchfield) who have been pillars of strength for me on more than one occasion.

Sophie and I have been very touched by all the lovely messages and texts we have received since we informed the club we were moving, thank you and needless to say we are very sad to leave Dartes but we know we will see many of you at galas in the future.

Gary had to have his comment, he said "using Hannah for my photoshoot (for the 2009 brochure) turned out to be THE most expensive shoot ever!! lol!"

Many thanks once again to all our friends at this wonderful FAMILY club.

Appologies to those at Friday evening's session (when the decision was finally made) who I did not speak to. I was very very emotional as I feel I am leaving behind a lot of friends and a fantastic club.
